on staying warm.

winter has officially come to the city, and that means coming up with various ways to stay warm. below i have compiled a list of my favorites - a sleeping bag coat (as i like to call them, although that one is not necessarily my style), is the most important one, and the rest is just gravy. a vest and a big cozy sweater help on the days where it's warmer or you're being active, while the earmuffs add a bit of color and fun to the season. lastly is the red coat - nicer than the sleeping bag for nights out on the town, and a good color to wear in the sea of black that is nyc. what are your essentials for winter warmth?

  1. A super thick scarf and sweater underneath my mammoth-like coat! I'm cold, even in the summer, so you can imagine what I'm like in the winter.

  2. jillian - i am right there with you, a scarf makes all the difference, too.

  3. Now that we live in the south our keeping warm paraphernalia has significantly decreased, which I'm totally okay with. I do like to have a scarf to keep that blasted draft from entering my coat though.

  5. Thank you for this. I'm going to Minnesota in three weeks and am prepared to die. I just feel so awkward with all the garb on, especially mittens. How am I supposed to do anything while wearing mittens?! Last year I discovered something called a neck warmer which basically changed my life forever. I'll do my best to spend my time inside drinking coffee.

  6. erin - what you need are the mittens that are fingerless, and the mitten top can be on or folded back (not sure if that's explained well, see example here: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/obey-fold-back-fingerless-mittens/3247412?cm_cat=datafeed&cm_ite=obey_fold_back_fingerless_mittens:375102_1&cm_pla=gloves/mittens:men:gloves&cm_ven=Froogle,Google_Product_Ads&mr:adType=pla&mr:referralID=NA&mr:trackingCode=C4412326-F0FC-E011-8116-001517B1882A&origin=pla). That way you can toggle back and forth between being useful and wearing warm mittens. but the coffee should do the trick do. minnesota must be insanely cold this time of year!

  9. I agree with Erin on the mittens. Who in the world can text in mittens? Or is it just that it is so cold that no one in their right mind would be texting outside? I clearly can never leave California. Unless I invest in mittens.
