on my weekend in pictures.

our last weekend in upstate ny came and went just like that. i could tell you about the hike we took, and the date we went on, and the breakfast pizza i devoured one last time, but so often blogs contain pictures of happiness and seeming perfection. so if i did that, i would be leaving out the fight we got into this past weekend. it's not all blogger-approved chevron stripes and frenchpress coffee and pintrest-beloved colored jeans around here. we got into a fight on one of brian's last nights in town. and it soured our saturday night and made for restless sleep and led to apologies and hugs and the gratefulness for breakfast pizza to help make it better. it was, naturally, a fight over something inconsequential, but it happened and it was unpleasant and it made us take another step towards being better to each other and realizing we still have shortcomings that need some work. we all get into fights and have disagreements and they're common enough that they don't need mentioning. but so are cups of coffee and breaths of fresh air, yet we fawn over them, still. so, just this once, let's be mindful that in between the mundane but beautiful, every now and then there's some unpleasantness that pictures don't always capture. luckily, though, there's always breakfast pizza to help make it better.

  3. I seriously love your honesty here! It's so easy and fun to post the good things... but you are right - it's not always as pretty as the pictures look. You are a real human and it's ok to have a bad night that leaves you with a feeling that you don't want to write home about. We certainly all do it. Doesn't it make you appreciate the good times so much more?

Glad you had an otherwise good weekend :) I absolutely loved those photos of the mountains and river!

  4. Oh gosh, weekend fights are the worst (if Jordan and I argue on the weekend, I end up feeling bad for the whole weekend, it’s easier to put it out of your mind during the week) but fights do happen (especially in times of stress and change) and I believe the occasional fight is really healthy as it gets everything out there in the open and then you can move on…. And eat breakfast pizza! Glad you were able to redeem some of your weekend in true Colleen style!

  6. I love love loved this post, and this is exactly why you have become one of my fave bloggers because just from reading what you write I totally get the sense that you are what you are, there's nothing fake or pretentious about you. And also because you say things like "it's not always chevron stripes and frenchpress coffee"....I'm glad you guys made up in time for breakfast pizza!!!!

  8. I'm going to miss your pictures of the beautiful Hudson and mountains on your way to see Brian! But I'm excited that he moved in today, too :)

And I so appreciate the transparency of this post! My life is certainly not always just pretty things and good food, and it's nice to be reminded it's the same for others too. I think if we aren't careful to remember that, it can be discouraging reading blogs that seem to only showcase only the pretty parts of life.

    1. so true - we get caught up in thinking someone must be leading a perfect, happy, never a bad moment, but we should know better to know that can't be true.

  9. TRUTH. And love how well you said it. I'm glad this weekend was filled with gorgeous views and breakfast pizza, and sorry it was filled with a fight, too. And you're right-- It happens to all of us, even those with seemingly "chevron-filled, colored pants lives".

Zan and I had a moment on the Brooklyn Bridge. It was silly, and we were tired, but it happened, and then we eventually got over it. I'm glad you pointed this one out, because nothing is perfect, nor should it always be. Thanks for being brave to post this. Shows you're real and keeps us all honest.

  13. Thanks for this post. I feel you on the fighting... it happens to the best of us. :) Jim and I got into a little fight on our honeymoon. We were lost in Old San Juan and had been walking for FOREVER. And I just broke down over it. Unbeknownst to me, Jim had been filming the whole thing on his cell phone. So, later that day, after we'd moved on, eaten something, had a few drinks, he was, like, "Hey, check out this video I shot earlier..." and it was ME during that meltdown. Not funny... well, actually, it was very funny to see myself in total bitch mode. HA. I made him delete the video immediately, obvs. xo.
