on my weekend in pictures.

this past weekend i went down to austin, texas for a girls weekend (or perhaps i should call it a ladies weekend) with my friends from grad school. instead of bro-ing out, we ladied out. it was quite nice, as was expected.
as for austin - it was great. warm, delicious food everywhere, a million things to do and see and hear. i'd like to go back for a bit longer and soak up more of the city (and yes, eat some more of that food).
as for my friends - time is moving on. one is pregnant, the kind of pregnant where it looks like she just ate a big dinner. about to really start showing any day now. another is about to move into the house she bought with her husband. slowly but surely we are growing into our lives.
we talked about our five year plans. careers, babies, marriage. what we want. where we want to live. what we want out of our jobs. i wonder if it will all happen, if it will all fall into place. we'll see. it's nice to know no matter the outcome we will always be there for one another, and that, sometimes, is enough.

  1. Austin looks delicious! Me and a few of my friends always have the five-year talk too. I wonder if our predictions (or hopes?) will prove true.

  2. Yay! I'm glad you had a good time and your girlfriends enjoyed it. The weather was just about perfect - if not a little too windy

  4. those weekends are the best. my girlfriends and I abandoned our babies, husbands, jobs and boyfriends for a weekend in in a New England cabin last summer and thought it was the last time we could get away without life getting in the way...

...and then we went to Puerto Rico at the beginning of November, again leaving the kids behind (but we brought out guys this time). It can happen, even as life happens when you put your mind to it.

  5. I love ladies weekends!! What a fun place to visit. I've always wanted to go to Austin. Glad you had a great time catching up with your girlfriends. Isn't it weird how after college your friends who once were peers are all at different life stages now? It doesn't mean the relationship is over, but it certainly changes things a bit. The amazing thing is when you stay good friends through all that... that's something to cherish.

    1. agreed - that's even more pronounced with my high school friends. all sorts of changes through the years but even when we get together not much between us changed no matter the paths we've taken.

  7. Looks like such a lovely weekend. Austin is definitely on my list of places to visit (and maybe move when I can't stand another NYC winter). I love the fact that you and your friends are moving in all sorts of directions and paces and can still get together and have a good time. I sometimes have trouble relating to friends with babies and mortgages etc...but I should just get over it and enjoy their company!

  9. Glad you were able to get away and have a fun ladies weekend! Isn't it something to stop and realize how life has taken each of you to such different places? Life is really moving ahead full speed... careers, marriages, babies(!!!). I kind of want it to slow down a little. And then that thought makes me feel really old.

  10. So awesome you guys took a girls trip. I seriously need to plan another weekend with my high school girlfriends-- it's been just a little bit too long for my liking!

Same with your friends, my friends are all over the place-- literally (all over the country-- with one friend in New Zealand!) and also, we are at different points in our adult lives. But my favorite part about growing up is realizing that your true and bestest friends will always be that, no matter what happens, no matter how much life takes you on different roads.

I always remember that quote: "True friends grow separately without growing apart." An oldie, but a goodie. And so true!
